Ripper Roots

Iconic Abbott Hall

By sheer coincidence, we share the same hometown, Marblehead, Massachusetts. A beautiful town with a long history, Marblehead is also sporty. Best known as the birthplace of the American Navy, Marblehead Harbor is unique in its ability to shelter over two thousand boats of all sizes and shapes.

Marblehead 22- Swampscott 16!

Less known is its high school football team. A long-standing Thanksgiving tradition is attending the game between Marblehead and their archrival, Swampscott. The Magicians didn’t have much magic when we were young but have since dominated the rivalry.

Racquet sports were our passion and Marblehead continues to offer residents not only tennis, paddle and now pickleball but also badminton. The Gut ‘n Feathers Club serves as headquarters for many a Senior Ripper at their Friday night communal dinners and Sunday games where players alternate between the court and the cribbage board.

Best of all, the town is a jogger’s and biker’s haven as there is many a route through antique town streets, along the rocky coastline, on the rail trail, and on the suburban streets of our childhood. At least one of us will be lacing up trusty running shoes this weekend to revisit old memories and appreciate the wonderful place that is Marblehead (while the other of us continues to work tirelessly on the blog!). We hope that you too, have the opportunity to rekindle your love for your roots, wherever they may be. Happy Thanksgiving!

Then Marblehead forever! God bless that good old town. May she never shame her noble ancestry. She was first in revolution and first in ‘61. And from whiskey bondage we will keep her free.
