KPCW and Friends of Ski Mountain Mining History

The Senior Rippers are sponsoring a KPCW Pledge Hour This Tuesday Our fellow ripper, Don Roll, was seeking a sponsor for Friends of Ski Mountain Mining History’s Pledge Hour at our local community radio station and asked the Senior Rippers if they could help sponsor their hour.  Thanks to donations by Bill & Pat Harris, Don & Kathy Roll, Don & Anne Keyser and Gail and me, we will be sponsoring their hour this Tuesday, March 2, at 4 PM MST. Our Love Affair with Buck Hill Falls

In March of 1992, Gail “dragged” me, kicking and screaming, to look at a community in the Poconos called Buck Hill Falls. When some friends suggested we consider renting there for the summer, my response was, “I’ve been to the Poconos and I’m not going back”. Well, Gail prevailed, and we made the 2 hour drive from Brooklyn on a cold, rainy Sunday in March. We left I-80 near Stroudsburg, and drove through the Poconos I remembered. PARENTS

My step-mom, Ellaine, passed away two weeks ago from complications due to Covid. Both she and my dad (whom you may recall is 100) tested positive for Covid a little over three weeks ago. Needless to say, it has been difficult to concentrate on anything else during this time, and writing posts about fun adventures just didn’t seem that important. Hence our absence from the blogosphere for a while. Ellaine was my step-mom for almost 48 years. My mom passed away when I was 45. I was blessed to have two moms. What’s Your Thing?

My father was a clipper. He routinely read several newspapers, always connecting people in his life to what he read. My fellow Ripper and I could expect a pile of clippings next to our bed when we visited about things that he thought we would enjoy. Despite the trend to online news, I inherited his preference for print on paper and find myself tearing out articles to mail to others even when my fellow Ripper tells me that there is a much easier and faster way to share news.
